In this blog post we’ll be reviewing the essentials of a mature workstation build, in this case, for graduate school. We begin with a look at what defines a workstation in a way that differentiates it from a consumer PC, which is typically a 4-8 core machine, with limited RAM and often an older generation GPU. Then we describe the main workstation build I have been working on. Next, I briefly review the choice of operating system and essential productivity tools. Finally, I describe a data science workflow that is typical for my bioinformatics interests.
